Roma head coach Jose Mourinho has officially been punished for his comments towards a referee after this past season's UEFA Europa League final.

After losing on penalties in the Europa League final, the Portuguese manager was filmed using foul language directed at referee Anthony Taylor in the car park at the Puskas Arena in Budapest.

Mourinho had been furious at certain decisions made by the match official during his side's defeat to Sevilla, and suggested in a post-match press conference that Taylor "appeared Spanish" throughout the match.

In a statement released on Thursday, UEFA announced the conclusion of their charges against the ex-Chelsea and Real Madrid tactician, revealing he has been suspended for four matches.

"To suspend AS Roma head coach, Mr. Jose Mourinho, for the next four (4) UEFA club competition matches in which he would otherwise participate, for directing abusive language at a match official," the statement on official their website read.

This means Mourinho will only be available for the final two group matches of Roma's Europa League campaign in the 2023/24 season.
