The last time Chiefs were crowned champions of the Nedbank Cup was in 2013 after defeating SuperSport United 1-0 in the final of the competition, with the likes of Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Tefu Mashamaite all seeing glory in the Amakhosi colours.
Now, Letsholonyane and Mashamaite will come up against their former team in the quarterfinals of the 2017 Nedbank Cup, on Saturday, April 22, playing against the likes of Bernard Parker and Siphiwe Tshabalala, whom they once called their teammates.
Interestingly, the common factor in both side’s Nedbank Cup success is Head Coach, Stuart Baxter. The Englishman guided the Glamour Boys to their last Nedbank Cup in 2013 and now sits at the helm of the bench of the Tshwane giants.
Months after joining up with SuperSport United in 2016, the head coach went on to lead the Matsatsantsa side to win the Nedbank Cup in May that same year.
The two sides who are also vying for the league title will now go head to head in the quarterfinals of the competition this weekend, April 22, with the defending champions SuperSport travelling away to the FNB Stadium.
