Phakamani Mahlambi has made history by becoming the first South African to make the move to Egypt's Premier League, signing with giants, Al Ahly.

The Siya crew explained on Wednesday evening that the teenager was jetting out to Egypt from OR Tambo airport in order to undergo a medical and complete a move to the eight-time CAF Champions League winners, and the move has now been finalised according to Wits.

While the amount that Bidvest Wits, who gave the player his platform, have been paid in return for his signature has not been revealed and reports have suggested that it is around the R17m mark.

It remains to be seen whether the 19-year-old South African international will be able to make his debut against El Geish this weekend, however, he will no doubt be chomping at the bit to get going. He has signed a four-year deal.

No South African player has ever played at Al Ahly or in the Egyptian Premier League before.

surely his football will grow especially at time when we need south african players who will deepely understand african football conditions, bcoz now it seems we do not have any idea of what african soccer is about, maybe this is due to the less interest shown by the likes of kaizer chiefs in participating in continental competitions.
